Four birds including a Dove and Kingfisher decorate this hand-painted, egg-shaped box featuring a raised, golden Chinar tree (Platanus orientalis) with nutlets. Kari-kalamdani (papier-mâché) originated in the 13thcentury in the northern-most region of India and was often created into boxes or vases for special treasures.

Included with this purchase is a round Kari-kalamdani box featuring a hand-painted Asiatic black bear.
